My Creative Scrapbook April Tutorials

My final reveal using the May Main Kit for My Creative Scrapbook.

 If you are like me, you have a hard time cutting your favorite papers because you love both sides and/or you are afraid you will run out! Here’s a couple tips to get the most from your papers and flowers. 

 

 

I absolutely love the pink flower paper. I knew I would want to use it over and over BUT it is also the perfect background for the wood grain/flower paper. Here’s what I did (I do this quite frequently! )
I punched the edges first. Then, leaving a good inch around the inside….plenty for adhering my background paper, I cut out the center of my paper. I have a perfect punched edge with no cut corners, and still have plenty of the Pink flower to play with!  

Another dilemma…The wood grain flower print is a pretty background for my layout BUT I am in love with the plaid on the back and definitely want to use it on a couple more layouts. Again, I cut away a portion of the paper, but because it is the background, I cut a much smaller piece.

I lined up where would be the best portion to cut, and easiest spot to hide. Now I have plenty more of my favorites to play with!

 

I altered the flowers from the kit by using my gesso to create distressed edges on the flower petals.

 

After dipping my brush into the gesso, I brushed most of the paint out onto my matte, leaving a light portion still on the brush.

 

Gently brush the edges of the petals to get a dry brushed look.

 

To make my flowers stretch, I removed the bottom two layers from the pink flower. I folded the bottom layers in half.

 

Again, I dry brushed the edges of the petals.

 

 

I tucked the folded side under the photo, adding fullness to my bouquet…it just looks like a whole flower is tucked under the photo! 

 

I also took the bottom two layers off the white flower.

 

I wanted a subtle pink coloring in the center of the flower petals. Using my Ranger Distress Ink, I gently rubbed the petals with my applicator until I achieved the amount of color I desired.

 

I used a bottle cap from the kit as a flower center and now have two flowers to add to my layout!

My Creative Scrapbook - May Reveal

 I just love the colors and patterns of these adorable papers!The patters of these papers blend so easily!

I absolutely adore the burlap flower! I wanted the flower to stand out so I kept the cluster simple.

Hello! Today I have a card featuring some of the new winter dies from Cheery Lynn Designs.

The card base is cut using the Scalloped Rectangle Reflections Boutique set. I added texture to the white portion of the background using the Petite Hearts Embossing Plate. I added some trim from the Expandable Tiny Borders plate, and Lady Kate Edger for lace.

The flower cluster was created using Build a Flower #3 to create the yellow flower. Cutie Fringe 4 makes the most adorable spiky flowers, shown here in burgundy. The Daisy Strip has three different sizes on one die, making cutting so much quicker! Two different sizes are tucked into the bouquet. Foliage is from Build a Flower #3, Rose Leaf Strip, Stacker Flower #1 Leaf, and Olive Branches. To the bottom right corner is the new Best Wishes Phrase, and a Mini Butterfly fluttering about.

Sweet Baby

Hello! Have you seen the new Pixie Dies from Cheery Lynn Designs? They are so adorable! Today’s card features Pixie Guardian.

I cut the die from glitter cardstock, making her pop even more! The third circle from the Classic Silver Stacker and Scalloped Circle Nesting Die makes the perfect background behind her.

I tucked in some foliage using Olive Branches, Small Leaves #2, and Flourish Leaf Strip. The tag was created with the smallest of the Scalloped Coved Rectangle Nesting Stackers, decorated with the Coved Rectangle Piercing Tool. To create the scalloped layer, I placed two pieces of Border Carnivale back to back. Around the edges is the Classic French Flair Silver Stacker atop the Scalloped French Flair Nesting Stacker. The background was cut using a Mini Pearl Rectangle Reflection Die, adding texture using the Baby Feet Embossing Plate.

Red, White, and Blue

Hello! Today’s 12x12 layout is inspired by this weeks challenge at Cheery Lynn Designs, Red White and Blue.

 I started by creating a border around my background paper with Lace Light Deco Border. Next, I layered the Nautical Wheeler Doily, Mega Tea Party Doily, and the center of the Polynesian Sails Oval Doily. To matte my photo, I chose to stagger to cuts from the middle size French Flair Classic Silver Stacker. Along the bottom you see the Flower Chain Border resting atop the Border Carnivale.

To create the banner, I used half of the center cut of Polynesian Sails Oval for each pennant.

 I really wanted to add a flag to my little cluster but didn’t have one. What does a crafty person do when they can find what they are looking for? Create their own! For the red piece, I cut the smallest of the Scalloped Coved Rectangle Small Stacker Nesting Dies. I handstiched some stripes and created French knots for the stars. Once complete, I wrapped the coved edge around a toothpick for the pole. It’s not politically correct but it is original! J The flower was created using the Medium Rose. Foilage is from the Olive Branch, Flourish Leaf Strip, and Small Leaves #2.

Nuts About Sketches Reveal

I’m so excited!! Today is my first reveal for Nuts About Sketches!!

Jillibean Soup- pattern paper; cardboard letters, stickers, bean stalks, stamp, spots; buttons- Basic Grey, vintage; Sassafrass-flowers; Making Memories-tag; Ranger - Distress Inks, Distress Paints, Stickles; Stampin’ Up marker; other- denim, burlap, cardboard, stitching

I haven’t done much distressing lately and decided a farm layout was the perfect place to bring it back in! I created the flower background using my Ranger Distress Inks, and a Jillibean Soup Stamp.

You know I have to add texture and dimension! To create the “farm” I cut around the farm scene, from a second farm scene, I fussy cut the barn, tractor/trailer, and hens. What's a farm without trees? I attached all the pieces with pop dots. Notice the open barn doors?! Using a scrap of cardboard, I dry brushed the edges with Ranger Distress Paints for the land.

The denim flowers were cut from a pair of Hubby’s old pants!



How about a little burlap edging.



Don’t you just love the look of wonder on my great-nieces face! This layout will be added to her book, therefore I left the journaling block for her mom to record memories.

Two more gifts Complete!

Have you worked with one of the 7Gypsies trays? You really ought to try one. I admit I was a bit intimidated at first, but I had so much fun creating these I am going to have to make one for myself now!
I wanted to do something more personable for my sons girlfriends and decided what better gift to give them than their favorite guys!
This is my younger son and since his girlfriend is 15 I wanted something with a bit of fun teen flair to it. She is planning to paint her room purple so I chose a black tray and added black, purple, and silver accents with LOTS of bling!



Since my older son and his girlfriend are quite a bit older, I went with a bit more romantic flair. I wasn’t happy with the photos I have on hand so I left some bare spots to add photos after the holidays.



Trying to keep things balanced between the girls, I kept most of the details as similar as possible. You will find lots of rubons, Spellbinders Diecuts, bling, pearls, stickles, and goodies of all sorts!

Time for Dirty Scraps Challenge #19!

We all have those little secrets we run across.
