Nuts About Sketches #154

It’s Monday, and time for my reveal at Nuts About Sketches. I opted to turn this weeks sketch to the side, making it more suitable for my choice of photos.

For added interest, I punched a Kraft boder and attached it to the center block. Using long pieces of foam tape, I adhered the center block to the background paper so the entire center block is raised off the background paper!

Sketch #154 I can’t wait to see your version! Thanks for stopping by!

March already?!

Hello everyone! How was your weekend? I spent the weekend at a local crop….my first 3 day crop ever! Can you believe it?! Of course I didn’t accomplish much, but the company was fabulous…and that’s what it’s really about, right!

Here is a card I created over the weekend….It looks like I’ve been on a layout hiatus, doesn’t it? Naawww, they are coming! I’ve been designing items for publication, and a few other suprises so you are going to have to wait a bit to peek! ;0)
Jillibean Soup-pattern paper, tag, stamp, sticker, card base; Coredinations Cardstock; Spellbinders; Kaiser Craft; Ranger Distress Inks; Bobunny; Marvy
Using my Spellbinders die, I cut a lacy circle slightly larger than the sticker and attached to the tag with pop dots. For even more dimension, I also adhered the sticker with a pop dot. A pearl in the center of the birdhouse, and a small cluster next to the sentiment added a bit of femininity to the card.

Gingerbread....yummm

Hello!! Popping in with another quick post! I’ve completed two of my scrappy Christmas gifts, just one more to go! I am hoping to get it completed tomorrow *crossing my fingers for a good mojo day*
How are you coming on your shopping? With all the storms we’ve had here in MN, I’ve resorted to shopping online this year. I have to say that I missed the hustle and bustle of the crowds, but it sure has been fun having package after package arrive on my doorstep!
While waiting for my packages to arrive, I took some time to create some tags. I just love these guys! I cut the gingerbread out using my Cricut and the Dress UP Paper Dolls Cartridge. I shaded the edges and the center of the “cookies” with a bit of Distress Ink and chalked some cheeks. Next I outlined, added some trim, a bow, and stickled some chipboard hearts for buttons.

I'm off to wrap my gifts, and hang my tags!

What fun!!

What a an awesome crop!! I wasn’t feeling well again, but the challenges and chatter were just the boost I needed!
Here are a couple challenges I posted. Feel free to play along for fun…and don’t forget to share your version with me!

First, I challenged the ladies to complete a layout in an hour using a fun sketch from Helen Croft at Scrap A Little…Thanks Helen!!

I am a super slow scrapper, but I finished this in 45 minutes! I am carving jack-o-lanterns with the kids today. I'll add a few photos of our pumpkins to this later.

Next, When I think fall, not only do I think of beautiful colors, crisp air, and lots of baking, Harvest Moon comes to mind…it must be the farm girl in me with all the late nights out in the field under the bright moon and blanket of stars.

Representing the Harvest Moon, my challenge to you is to use at least one circle on your layout, OR really challenge yourself and create a circle layout! And no, pre-made circle embellishments like buttons and brads don't count. :) Large circles, small circles, make your own embellie circles, stitch a circle, tuck one behind some layers or photo in your design....it must be something you cut/ made!

I am working on my pumkin tutorial and will have it up in a day or two!

Thanks for stopping by!

Time for Dirty Scraps Challenge #19!
You thought I didn't know....but I do.
We all have those little secrets we run across.
You know those conversations you overhear or the truth comes out and you see someone for who they really are. It's crushing sometimes and other times it is enlightening for sure.
When someone lies to you and you question why in the world they even lied?
When you walk in and find something you were never meant to see....it's all life...it happens.
Life is messy and dirty....go scrap it all!
Here's mine:

My journaling reads: Why? Why did you feel that you couldn’t tell me. You know I would have been there for you. You know that I never ever would have judged you. I would have been by your side supporting you. That’s what best friends do. Yes, I would have been disappointed in your decision but I would have understood. I am way more disappointed that you didn’t trust me enough to tell me yourself.
Seriously?! How could you keep something so important from me?!
Here’s a secret for you. For about 17 years, I’ve known and I’ve been waiting for you to trust me, for you to believe in me, for you to tell me yourself.

Paper Wishes is sponsoring an awesome prize pack for this challenge! Head on over to Dirty Scraps and check it out!

Reminder: Harvest You Memories Crop at Life Preservers October 15th-17th! Grab your photos and adhesive!! Come join us for some scent-sational challenges, color-ific Make ‘n Takes, and fun-tastic games! Again, I will be hosting a 1 hour sketch challenge Saturday afternoon!

Doodle it Your Way

Do you like to doodle? Are you one of those people that doodle on everything? Did your class notes contain more doodles than actual notes. Or, are you the type of person that hates a mess. Do little scibbles every drive you nuts? Or are you afraid to make some scribbles ‘cause you might mess up you paper? It’s time for another weekly challenge at Life Preservers Scrapbook Club, and I am challenging you to add some doodles to your layout. Make some flourishes, hearts, or stars. How about a fancy design, or some faux stitching. Grab your maker/pen and doodle it your way! Don't forget to share your creation in the gallery!

I created my example using the June Card Kit featuring Lily Bee’s Hello Sunshine line from Life Preservers Scrapbook Club.

Non kit items: marker; floss; felt; thickers; distress ink; buttons;

There goes another one!

I am so sad to see these papers disappear from my stash. They have definately made the top 5 of my all-time favorite list! I literally pieced some scraps together to create a couple cards. Now all that is left is a few stickers and a couple Wild Cards! …oooo, and some empty space for more scrap goodies! LOL! :)

How about a little sneak peak at the next ScrapFit challenge?!

One of my all-time favorite photos of my boys together!

I really haven't decided if I like how this one turned out....but I had fun playing with my mists!

The last of the scraps went for a few boy cards!

How was your weekend?

Me? I had the best time cropping with the ladies at Life Preservers! They are a hoot! I was blown away by the all amazing challenges and make'N takes the DT put together!! I really didn't accomplish much scrappy wise, I was too busy chatting it up on the boards...imagine that?!

I did host another 1 hour sketch challenge using a wonderful sketch from my sweet friend Aymee at A Sketchin' Southernbelle.

If you are looking for some inspiration check out the board and gallery at LP. The ladies have done some incredible work!!

Have a happy scrappy day!

How about something a bit more season today!! I’ve had the itch to find myself a good scarecrow. After scouring some good craft sales and the seasonal sections in the craft stores, I found my self empty handed. Those that know me know I am going to find a way to create my own!! In my Life Preservers kit, was the most stunning SEI papers….lots of pretty copper foil and beautiful flocked papers. Perfect for a fall scarecrow!

To make the scarecrow, I started out with a preprinted tag board scarecrow I had purchased through Oriental Trading as a craft project for my daycare kids. With my printer, I copied each of the body parts for a pattern. After I used my pattern pieces to cut body parts and clothes, I inked each piece, and then assembled by attaching onto the tag board parts for stability.

Here is a lo I created using these gorgeous papers!

I know I am dating myself here!

Well, here is my entry for round #2 !

Our requirements were:
Layout must include:
- at least 3 pictures
- 4 different patterned papers (no more, no less)
- 2 colors of cardstock (no more, no less)
- at least one arrow
- buttons or beads
- must have journaling that includes..."If I were honest with myself...". It can be as long or as short as you like but must include those words.
- must be an original design - no sketches please!

I stepped outside my comfort zone on this one! I haven’t decided if I like how it turned out….not sure that it portrays the feel that I was striving for, maybe that’s it.

Like how I doodled the arrow, heart, and flower?! They actually turned out better than I had hoped! I sanded the black cardstock to reveal some white and used a glaze pen to doodle in the word "totally." Love that glaze pen! That is also the pen I used to doodle in the black checks.

How about the laces with the friendship beads…they were a must-have on here!

Who didn’t have a belt, or a half dozen?! I couldn’t pass on adding some “Madonna” lace and netting (mesh)!

The journaling reads:

An 80’s teen! Our clothing was gnarly, dude….Not! Oversized shirts w/shoulder pads, big gaudy belts, stirrup pants, and parachute pants, scrunched socks and jelly shoes. Don’t forget to top off the look with mega makeup and some totally radical chunky jewelry. Big hair….AquaNet…..need I say more?! We looked totally awesome! Well, at least we were comfy!! Seriously, It was a great era to grow up in. We were freer to express ourselves with out being ostracized. Communication had a whole different meaning. Families ate together and played together. Fun with your bff’s was packing as many people as you could in a car and heading to the Drive-in movie, or the local dance. Laws were freer. People seemed to be more sincere. Maybe it was just the stage I was at in life, that made the world seem that way. Maybe it was the way my parents raised us. McDonalds launched the chicken McNugget. Apple sold the 1st Mac. Boombox and Memorex. Rubik‘s cube. If I were honest with myself, I would have to say that being an ‘80s teen was like toooh-tally awesome!

Hope you enjoyed the trip through time! Thanks for stopping by!

p.s. I saw the typo on my journaling tag after all was said and done! But, I decided, it just wouldn’t be me without at least one typo!!
