Did you have a nice Holiday weekend?

Thanks to a huge snow storm, we didn't get to celebrate with our families yet. On the up side, being snowed in for 3 days gave me plenty of time to play with my newest Life Preservers kit! I have to admit I was a bit intimidated, yet super excited to get the papers from the SassafrasLass Amplify line. The patterns are a bit more crazy than I would normally choose, but I was quite eager to push myself outside my usual realm of scrapping and see what I could do with them. I have to say I have had an absolute blast playing with these papers!!!

You know how I love my layers! Yes, I just had to try it! When I first saw these papers, I instantly thought of this photo of my grandmother. I think these fun, bright, daring patterns match her personality. To do the journaling, I put the rubon directly on the twill.

I also had to try out a style away from my usual, yet bringing in some of my usual stitching and such to make it my own! This photo of my boys is over 15 years old, but it still makes me laugh everytime I see those little faces smashed up against the window!

To make this little purse, I covered a fry box. No, not a dirty one! After cutting an oval for the top, I punched two holes and threaded the ribbon/twill through the holes for the handle. I finished by decorating with some lace and a flower. I used a velcro dot for the closure. It is the prefect size for a little treat or even a gift card!

And last but not least, I also made up a quick cute card.

Other bits of news:

Life Preservers has just posted the latest sketch for the card contest.

Better late than never!! Is it just me, or is it the time of year?! Lately, I feel like the harder I work to get ahead, the farther behind I fall! Usually by this time, I am finished shopping with the exception of a gift or two. Not only am I generally finished shopping, but they are all wrapped and under the tree. Do you know what is under my tree right now? NOT A THING! Just a poor lonely tree skirt! If I don't get out soon, I am going to hit the panic button!!! On the plus side, I've nearly completed my homemade gifts.

On to other business! Here are a couple Christmas cards.

I finally got a little time to scrap. It felt sooo good to sit down a create! The center block of this card is some rubons. I doctored them up with some stickles! Stickles...sooo addicting! I just love the Websters lace on this one!

This one is primarily cardstock, with a little Basic Grey pattern paper, ribbon, stickles, and a few jewels. Isn't it amazing how pretty plain old cardstock is when embossed with the cuttlebug?! I embossed the plain white with a couple different embossing folders, adding stickles to the center of the snowflakes. A little pattern paper for a matte. I then embossed some green Core'dinations cardstock, sanded lightly, and cut into triangles for trees. Add a few accessories and Waalaaa!!

Have a great day!

My Minds Eye sketch challenge

My Minds Eye has a sketch challenge going on. What an adorable sketch! Me being a huge MME fan, you know I had to give it a shot! While digging through my stash, this gorgeous vintagy floral pattern spoke to me. I just had to use it….the rest of the layout fell into place from there! Oh, and the adorable little girl in the photo is me!

This is the sketch we were to work from

And here is my version

After looking at it for a bit, I decided that the blue plaid was to bold to go all the way across the layout. I cut the end off the right side, but now it is to dark to get good photos! Oh well!! I'll try again tomorrow! Here is it is anyway!!

All of the papers used are from My Minds Eye, as well as the frame, overlay, die cuts, words, and all of the ribbons. Most of the products are from the Wild Asparagus and 29th Street Market lines.

Thanks for stopping by!

How about something a bit more season today!! I’ve had the itch to find myself a good scarecrow. After scouring some good craft sales and the seasonal sections in the craft stores, I found my self empty handed. Those that know me know I am going to find a way to create my own!! In my Life Preservers kit, was the most stunning SEI papers….lots of pretty copper foil and beautiful flocked papers. Perfect for a fall scarecrow!

To make the scarecrow, I started out with a preprinted tag board scarecrow I had purchased through Oriental Trading as a craft project for my daycare kids. With my printer, I copied each of the body parts for a pattern. After I used my pattern pieces to cut body parts and clothes, I inked each piece, and then assembled by attaching onto the tag board parts for stability.

Here is a lo I created using these gorgeous papers!

Have you used the Core’dinations Cardstock?! I *heart* this product!! It is definitely a new favorite of mine for creating a distressed look, and when I want dimension. You can sand it , tear it, and it is super cute when embossed!! So I am posting a tad after the holiday, but I wanted to share with you, one of my favorite projects using this product. All of the accessories on the house, and the clothes and accessories of the friends were created with a variety of Core’dinations, distress inks from Tim Holtz, and embossing folders from Cuttlebug. You can click on the photo to enlarge it if you want a better peak or check out the individual photos in my gallery.

Can you believe that is it less than two weeks until Thanksgiving?! I love thanksgiving! My most favorite holiday! A day to remember together all of the blessings God has bestowed upon us. With family all around, and delicious aroma wafting through the air….MMMmmmm. Speaking of scrumptious scents, time to bring on the next Scrpfit challenge! Whip out that favorite recipe early and get started….if you don’t have a picture, remember you have a perfect photo opportunity during your Thanksgiving celebration!

The requirements are:

1. Use red, orange or brown cardstock somewhere in your LO.
2. Use TWO patterned papers.
3. Use Ribbon
4. Use a favorite THANKSGIVING RECIPE and a photo of either the person the recipe came from or of the food or both.
5. The rest is up to you.

I used a recipe that I found several years ago in a Taste of Home magazine. It quickly became a family favorite and is requested for almost every family gathering. The best part, it is super quick and easy to make!!

Now I have some super scrappy news to share! ScrapFit forum is open to the public!!! Wohoo! Stop on by for a chat. We would love to have you! See you there!

How about an early treat!

With my son overseas, I wanted to do a little extra something for he and his buddies this year. I realize the little package itself isn’t much, but I wanted them to know that someone would take the time to do something special just for them. While grocery shopping, I came across a large box of Spongebob Squarepants fruit snacks. Okay, so the guys are a bit old for fruit snacks, but I knew it would make them smile and lighten the air for a bit!! I made up 30 of these cute little treat bags…I sent 24 over for them to share.
As soon as the little treats arrived, my son emailed to tell me that they all appreciated the homemade goody, and they really got a kick out of the fact that I had tucked in Spongebob! By coincedence, while confined to the ship lately, they had been watching a series of Spongebob episodes! Too fun!

Stop back tomorrow for more Halloween surprises!!

Here is another card for you! I made this one with the October Project Kit from Life Preservers! Everything is from the kit except the stickles, and vellum quote on the insert.

Just a couple more days to get your layout finished for Scrapfit!! A new challenge will be posted on November 1st. We will also be introducing a new DT member!!

Here is a sneak peak at the next challenge!

What an awesome weekend!! We had so much fun at the Life Preservers crop!! It’s not to late to check out all the great challenges and make N takes! Incredible inspiration there!! We have until Nov 1st to get them finished and posted!! I am so glad for the extension! I was having to much fun to accomplish very much! I did manage to get one challenge and one make N take finished. I am hoping to get several more completed throughout the week. We’ll see…the school just sent Drew home with a fever. Cross your fingers that he doesn’t get to sick, and that I don’t get it!!

I created this for Krista's Bingo Challenge. I used 10 or more buttons, staples, torn paper, and a stamped image.

I also finished Rhonda's Mini album Make N Take. I am going to slip this into Drew's stocking for Christmas. Naaa, I'm not to worried about him coming here and seeing it! I decided not to post photos of the pages this time. It is about a big hunting trip, and I didn't want to offend anyone with the contents.

G’ morning everyone!! Today’s the big day!!! Our Life Preservers Crop!! There are so many fun games, challenges, and make N takes for inspiration! Stop by and say Hi!

Here is my challenge:

What's a party without friends!? I hope you don't mind, but I've invited Danny Dracula, Freddy Frankenstein, Matilda Mummy, and Wanda Witch.
My challenge to you is to create a layout in honor of our friends. It does not need to be fall or Halloween related...create whatever theme you like. However, in honor of our friends your layout must contain the following:

Danny Dracula - Red (Danny's favorite color. It does not need to be the dominate color. Danny says jsut a drop of blood...I mean color is fine!)
Freddy Frankenstein - brads or eyelets ( they remind Freddy of his bolts!)
Maltida Mummy - Ribbon or trim
Wanda Witch - bling or glitter (Wanda says even witches like a little glitz when going out over the town!)

And here is my example….don’t you just love these Collage Press papers?! My favorite!!

For my make N take, I created these fun little treat bags! (again with some awesome Collage Press papers!) These would be fun for neighbors and coworkers!

Directions:You can use any size square, depending on what and how much you want to put inside. A 12x12 is large enough to put several things in, and 6x6 is perfect for a gift card. I made mine 8x8.

Step 1: cut a square from double sided paper ( I cut mine 8x8)

Step 2: fold in half to form a triangle

Step 3: bring bottom left corner up until straight across and fold

Step 4: bring right corner up until straight across and fold

Step 5: Bring one layer of the top point down and fold

Now, you should have a pocket that looks like this:

Step 6: Decorate!!

been busy!

I’m back!! For the past few weeks, I have felt in a bit of a scrappy slump. Thanks to Von and my October Life Preservers kit, I am feeling creative again!! Wohoo! Von's kits are always just the pick-me-up I need!
I tried and tried to come up with ideas for the Maya Road Sheer House mini album in the project kit. Beings the farm girl that I am, it kept screaming “barn” at me, soooo barn it is!! Take a gander and let me know what you think!!
*don't forget, you can click on the photos to enlarge them*

I tried to stick with just the Pink Paisly papers and punchouts from the kit as closely as possible. To create the trim on the barn, I cut stips from the excess on the punchout page. For the cow, I cut the white body parts from the punchouts!
